Crisis in The Hobbit:

Crisis:

The Crisis is what the whole journey was building up to. It is the main event or supreme ordeal. The crisis is what the main character was training to complete.

In the Hobbit the crisis might be really confusing. There is a crisis for Bilbo himself, which is when he faces Smaug. The actually crisis is when the battle of the five armies starts. The dwarves, elves, and humans face the goblins and wargs in a huge battle in under the lonely mountain. This is the crisis because it is what the quest was heading to. They needed they Arkenstone so the dwarves can be leaders again like they were before Smaug attacked them but the goblins and wargs did not want the dwarves to thrive again so they had to battle with them. In most hero quests the hero defeats the crisis. In the book the hobbit and dwarves do win and reclaim their homeland but with a pricy cost. Thorin, their leader, and Killi and Filli die in the battle leaving nobody as their leader for their kingdom. The crisis is what the whole book is about. It is the main cause of the journey itself.
