Normally, there is a prize given to heroes for passing the Supreme Ordeal. It could be anything from a kingdom to the Holy Grail to a marriage to a beautiful princess. Whatever it will be, it is a prize for the heroes' endurance and strength.

 

Treasure and Result in The Hobbit: 

The Journey is over and Bilbo is prepared to go home. He and Thorin resolve their contention before the dwarf passes, Bilbo settles generously for a small share of the treasure, and has gotten very respected by dwarves, elves and the wizards.
