Bilbo made many useful allies such as the Elves from Rivendell. The Elves from Rivendell gave them food and water and a safe place to stay although imprisoning them. Later on in the story the elves help the people of Lake Town get their share of the gold. Beorn was a robust human who could become a bear at night. Beorn helped them also by giving them a warm breakfast and told them how to escape the goblins and end up at the lonely mountains. The last ally that Bilbo and the company made were the people of Lake Town. Since Thorin was very noble and everybody knows that the kingdom is rightfully theirs they offered them food and drinks for as long as they please. The enemies were in great numbers and offered many challenges to them. The enemies present in the book were the trolls, wood elves, wolves, wargs and goblins. All of the enemies nearly succeeded in killing Bilbo and the company. The company faced 3 tests leading to the main crisis. The first test was when the trolls were about to eat them before being petrified. Secondly, were the giant spiders that trapped all of the company in their webs and were also going to eat them. Finally we were introduced to Gollum the true owner of the ring. Gollum challenges Bilbo to a game of riddles and because of the ring, Bilbo barely escapes and rejoins with the company.
